Early Learning Standards – Dr. Sharon Lynn Kagan presentation – November 19, 2005. On Saturday, November 19, over 400 early childhood educators, parents and interested community members packed the John Adams Middle School Auditorium in Santa Monica, CA for a conference on “Exploring Early Learning Standards Through Play.”

Hosted by RAND Corporation, in collaboration with many other organizations including Infant Development Association, the conference featured keynote speaker, Dr. Sharon Lynn Kagan.  Dr Kagan is a nationally and internationally known professor for her work related to the care and education of young children and Director of the Office of Policy and Research and Associate Dean for Policy at Teachers College, Columbia University.   With standards-based education becoming the norm for America’s K-12 system, the early care and education system is now beginning to develop preschool standards for children’s learning and education before kindergarten.  In California, preschool standards are being developed and set for public review in mid-2006.
