September 16 & 23 | 2:00-5:00 pm both days | Virtual Event

Speaker
Lisa Katzman, PT, DPT, PCS

This interactive two-part course will introduce the concepts of early childhood mental health, reflective practice, and therapeutic use of self as they relate to practice in early intervention. The instructor will review the factors that influence the formation of relationships in families of young children with disabilities and developmental delays.

This presentation will integrate current knowledge with case examples of young children typically encountered during the provision of home and community-based as well as virtual early intervention services and apply updated principles of practice that improve outcomes. Coaching and routines-based intervention will be discussed as models for strengthening family relationships and building caregiver capacities. Attendees will participate in small group discussions to engage in dialogue, problem-solving, and application of the material using real-life examples.

Participants will:

  • Discuss the foundations of early childhood mental health and family-centered intervention, as well as their impact on practice in the field of early intervention.
  • Analyze factors that influence the formation of relationships within families of children with disabilities and developmental delays.
  • Apply reflective practice principles to design therapeutic interventions that strengthen parents' relationships with their children.
  • Generate three relationship-based strategies to optimize early intervention outcomes.
