Family dynamics impact all areas of child development--feeding and mealtimes are no exception to this. No two children with a pediatric feeding disorder (PFD) are the same, and every family has their own values to feeding and mealtimes that need to be considered. Therefore, a critical component to each plan of care should address the child-caregiver dyad. Using a case-based approach, this presentation will dive into common approaches to treating PFDs to address breakdowns in mealtime routines while focusing on the family unit in the plan of care.

Learning Objectives:

  • List the types of challenges you may face when working with a family of a child who has a PFD
  • Identify at least 2 goals a family might be working on regarding feeding and mealtimes
  • Identify at least 2 resources you can share with caregivers to support them as they navigate a PFD
  • Discuss strategies to support caregivers as they repair the child-caregiver feeding dyad
