Those of us who work with young children know stress, like the stress we are all feeling as a result of this pandemic, often translates into an uptick in challenging behaviors. Tantrums, meltdowns, sleep disruptions, and regression are all ways that children may show that they are having a hard time.

So, what can we do to support the parents and caregivers that we work with? During this presentation we will cover key concepts of positive behavioral interventions and support that have been proven to support the acquisition of a child’s desired social and communication development. We will also consider some specific strategies that can help to maintain a little more peace during this challenging time.

Learning objectives:
At the end of this presentation participants will be able to

  • Recognize all behaviors as communication.
  • Describe the ABC’s of behavior and create a competing behavior pathway to create a plan to encourage more positive behaviors.
  • Site a few strategies for helping young children (and their caregivers) manage stress.
