Profectum Foundation, a nation
ally-based, recognized leader in training multi-disciplinary professionals
and parents on the DIR® approach to supporting the development of children
with autism or other social-communication challenges has generously offered
to provide this FREE training to IDA members.
The Developmenta
l, Individual Difference, Relationship-based Model (DIR®) is a parent-media
ted, naturalistic treatment approach to supporting development of children
with autism and special needs. This training centers on the understanding t
hat development grows within a structure of foundational capacities that su
pport relating, communicating, functioning and thinking.
Parti
cipants of this 2-part training will learn that each child brings unique se
nsory processing strengths and differences that foster growth and developme
nt at different rates. Affect-rich, attuned relationships with caregivers a
re central to this model and support the child’s development through emotio
nally meaningful experiences. The Foundational Capacities for Development
(FCD) are the powerful connections between the caregiver and child that ser
ve as the foundation and will be described and an overview of this model th
at supports the child’s development through emotionally meaningful experien
ces based on FCD’s will be covered.
More than 35 video examples and 2
.5 hours of facilitated group discussion are embedded throughout this train
ing. Participants will have the opportunity to explore how the DIR-FCD Mode
l can help guide our observations, deepen our understanding and attune our
intervention as we support the children and caregivers that we serve. Parti
cipants will be asked to keep their cameras on as they participate in this
course.
