How to Build Trusting Partnerships with Childcare Provider
s: Five Ways to Set the Stage for Collaborative Coaching
All
successful coaching partnerships are built on trust, but trust does not si
mply “happen.” We have to actively build it! In this session, we will descr
ibe five ways that early interventionists can set the stage for coaching wi
th childcare providers while building a strong partnership built on mutual
respect.
We will reflect on our biases and assumptions about chi
ldcare providers, consider how to reframe these thoughts and assumptions to
honor the experiences and expertise of the childcare provider, and discuss
how to communicate about our role as early interventionists in the classro
om. This virtual session will include discussions, reflective activities an
d examples from community-based settings.

Collaborative Coachin
g with Childcare Providers During Everyday Classroom Routines
Have you ever found yourself working with an infant or toddler in th
e corner, or even in a closet? After this two-part series, we hope to make
“in the corner” or “in the closet” intervention a thing of the past! This s
ession will focus on how to use a systematic framework for coaching that he
lps childcare providers embed strategies into their everyday classroom acti
vities.
These strategies will help you (and baby) get out of the
corner and into the classroom routines where all children learn. The virtu
al session will include video exemplars, discussions, and reflective activi
ties.

At Florida State University, Dr. Romano is an Assistant
Professor in the School of Communication Science and Disorders, and she is
the Director of the Communication and Early Childhood Research and Practice
Center.
Her research focuses on caregiver implemented intervent
ions to support the development of infants and toddlers with disabilities a
nd those at risk for delays in homes and classrooms, professional developme
nt approaches for early childhood providers, and interventions that target
prelinguistic communication skills. She is a speech-language pathologist/ea
rly interventionist by training, and she is a mama to three girls who keep
her laughing and on her toes every day.
