Music is a collaborative activity that both ignites social bonding and stimulates the whole brain. When a young child with special needs such as autism has difficulty learning to speak and socialize, song has successfully facilitated them to become kindergarten-ready. We'll explore the field of music therapy and the underlying neurological mechanisms of music and speech perception/production responsible for these functional gains. Through video and collaborative activities including hands-on training with the Sing and Speak 4 Kids interactive computer program, participants will experience how music and sound can affect the brain and speech.  It is going to be interactive so bring your phone, laptop or tablet!
