From Playtime to Snacktime: Mealtime Routines as a Tool in the Early Interventionist’s Coaching Toolkit
with Allie Glazer, M.S. CCC-SLP/L & Angela Hughes, M.S., CCC-SLP/L Tuesday, March 3, 2026 12:00pm-1:30pm | Virtual Event Can't attend the event live? Register to receive access to the recording!
Grab your favorite snack for this session! If you’re looking for tools to add to your coaching toolbelt, this talk is for you. Early Interventionists are well-versed in how play supports development, but it can be a struggle to apply strategies into other daily routines. In this session, we’ll focus on how a child’s mealtime can integrate all goals and disciplines from the IFSP. We won’t be discussing feeding therapy strategies, but rather how you can support mealtimes as part of your arsenal toolkit to move beyond play. There’s a whole buffet of opportunities available and you don’t even have to watch a child eat! Global development can be supported from all angles during a mealtime routine. Whether it’s regulation to “get to” the meal, or cleaning up afterwards, we’ll offer a holistic lens from which to target all your early intervention goals. Learning Objectives: By the end of the session, you'll learn:
- How you can ensure all developmental domains are supported during mealtime
- Playful ideas to set a positive mealtime environment
- Verbal scripts to partner with caregivers to expand focus beyond play
- How to complete a routine-based interview to identify strengths and challenges where you can add your support
