Trauma-Informed Practice: Perspectives for Early Intervention
Over the past years much has been learned through neuroscience about the brain and the developmental impact on its growth and function in the presence of adversity. This workshop will expose participants to the Four R’s of trauma-informed care: Realize the widespread impact of trauma; Recognize the signs of being trauma-triggered; Respond with policies and procedures that support optimal functioning; and Resist Re-traumatization in order to break the cycle and foster resilience.

Participants will:

  • Understand the differences between positive stress, tolerable stress, and toxic stress.
  • Become familiar with the risks associated with adverse childhood experiences.
  • Grasp the effect of excessive stress on the nervous system.
  • Be able to identify the Four R's of Trauma Informed Care.
  • Understand the positive impact of supportive adult relationships.
