In this interactive and engaging presentation, you will learn about how cultivating self-awareness and self-care can buffer stress and prevent burnout.
Self-awareness, self-care and pathways to regulation allow one to have the restored energy reserves required to prevent burnout as well as to access grounding strategies when triggered emotionally. These concepts are foundational to trauma-responsive work as providers cultivate these practices to manage children's dysregulated behavior with kindness and compassion versus reactive and trauma-inducing interactions. This presentation is based on the work of *The Center for Optimal Brain Integration.

Several self-care strategies and tools will be introduced:

  • The Neurobiology of Stress on the Body, Brain and Behavior
  • Burnout and Compassion Fatigue
  • Zones of Self-Awareness and Cultivating Grounders in Times of Stress
  • Health and Wellness Toolkit
  • Biomechanics of Breathing to Regulate
  • S.T.O.P. Tool
  • Mindfulness Strategies

Learning Objectives/Outcomes:

At the completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the physiology of stress and its impact on an individual's brain, body, and behavior
  • Explore and practice at least two different methods for raising self-awareness
  • Identify three or more functional strategies for promoting self-regulation and mindfulness.

*The Center for Optimal Brain Integration, founded by Julie Kurtz, is an organization that trains, coaches and consults on trauma-responsive practices and social-emotional strategies that build resilience.
