L. Hope Wills MA, RD, CSP, IBCLC, CNSC and Jenna Kobara, OTD, OTR/L,SWC are members of the Feeding Development Team at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Using cases examples from their practice, they will walk participants through early signs of feeding challenges and factors that impact feeding. Case studies will highlight different developmental, environmental, sensory and nutritional considerations important for building a comprehensive plan to support improved feeding outcomes for children. Innovative intervention strategies and techniques will be reviewed that will empower you with new ideas to better support children with feeding challenges on your own caseload. This course is appropriate for early interventionists from different disciplines and backgrounds with all levels of experience.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify early developmental signs of potential feeding challenges in young children.
- List interrelated factors that impact feeding and eating in young children.
- Discuss developmental, medical, environmental, sensory, and nutritional considerations in children with feeding challenges.
- Integrate one key strategy that can be used to support children with feeding challenges.
- Provides sensory and calming strategies for co-regulation of families to reduce caregiver anxiety.
Jenna Kobara, OTD, OTR/L, SWC Assistant Professor of Clinical Occupational Therapy University of Southern California Mrs. T.H. Chan Division of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy, Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry Dr. Kobara is an occupational therapist, who serves as an Assistant Professor in the Chan Division of Occupational Science and Occupational therapy at USC. She is a member of the UCEDD Feeding Development team and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, and has presented on feeding at the local and national level.
L. Hope Wills MA, RD, CSP, IBCLC, CNSC I Clinical IV Dietitian Discipline Supervisor, CA-LEND Program, Children's Hospital Los Angeles L. Hope Wills is a pediatric dietitian and international board-certified lactation consultant. She provides clinical care for children with feeding problems and chronic health conditions. Ms. Wills has presented at the national and local level on the topic of nutrition, feeding, lactation and infant mental health.
