Description:
Experts recognize that children develop in stages that build upon each other. Parents also develop in stages that build on each other and influence how and what they feed their young child. Stages of Parenting (Galinksy) offers a renewed perspective on how one becomes a parent. The presenters will explore the stages of parent development and its impact on feeding and nutrition in young children. The presenters will deliver a multimedia presentation that also engages participants in small group discussions using case-based scenarios.

Goals: Participants will be able to:

  • recognize at least 3 key components of stages of parent development as it relates to feeding and nutrition
  • identify events that delay or impair a parent’s ability to transition through stages
  • articulate impact of a parent’s “stage” on infant mental health and feeding
  • develop at least 3 strategies to support a parent through stages, from our own discipline, that will result in optimal feeding and nutrition
